It was his only job in his entire career. Les was involved in testing and specifying fiberglass manufacturing components. He studied fiberglass processes throughout his career, was sent to other plant locations for consulting, and was known as a trusted fiberglass expert throughout the community. Reichold Chemicals purchased Ferro Corp, and in the 1980s GAF Corp bought the facility and operated it for 25+ years until the plant’s closing in 2008. Les maintained his role as the top lab tech during all ownership changes. Les was not only “Mr. Fiberglass” at work, he was an avid fiberglass hobbyist. He handcrafted many 16 ft canoes, made furniture and sink items, and gifted American eagle decorative wall hangings to friends and family. Because of his practical knowledge, Les frequently received repair requests such as one from a champion water skier to fix his damaged fiberglass ski jump ramp.
