One of its most amazing qualities is that at birth the chicks are auto-sexing, meaning that you can tell males and females apart just by the color the day they are born! Our hens lay beautiful brown/speckled eggs that are around medium to large size. They can lay a whopping 200-250 eggs per bird per year! They also produce a great meat product if you are interested in butchering. Our roosters are extremely friendly as well as protective over the hens, they don’t mess with anything unless the hens are in danger. The Bielefelder chicken is the perfect chicken for a homestead, pet, show, or any other use you could possibly think of. Don’t miss out on this amazing bird; they are too good to pass up. We free range our chickens and allow them access to roam wherever they please. They have a varied diet of premium layer pellets, grasses, insects, and other things that they find while out foraging. We also give them calcium as it helps with stronger egg shells and other nutritional needs. Here at our farm we have a 1:5 male to female ratio in order to maximize fertility while still ensuring that the females are comfortable and not overbred. We use automatic coop door systems which allow the chickens to be mostly self sufficient, making sure that they get plenty of time in their day and don’t need to wait for a human caretaker. Our main breeding stock comes from Cackle Hatchery which is a very reliable hatchery and has provided us with the best chickens that truly represent their breed. Shipping hatching eggs is always a gamble and we cannot guarantee fertility rates, the postal services are usually fairly rough however we have had wonderful success in past years. In the event that your eggs do not arrive intact you can contact us and we will make it right, but again there is NO GUARANTEE on fertility or hatching rates. And we typically DO NOT offer refunds. That being said we do take pride in our shipping methods and always try to ship eggs at the best of our ability. In order to have good success we individually wrap each egg in bubble wrap and then place them tip down in the box. The boxes are also packed with bubble wrap, newspaper, or other soft filling material to make sure the eggs do not get jostled around. The eggs are candled to make sure that there are no cracks or blood spots in the eggs prior to shipping. We do fertility tests monthly to make sure that eggs are fertile. You are guaranteed to have at least an extra egg or two in each order to add a little extra security to make sure that you get all the eggs that you pay for.
